UED 102 - STUDY SKILLS

 ASSALAMMUALAIKUM WBT.

Hey guys. ✌

I am Nur Airiena Binti Mohd Faris who currently study at UITM Alor Gajah, Melaka.

I'm studying for AC110 - Faculty of Accountancy for 5 semesters.💓

I created this blog to share to all of you my experiences being at university for the first time. So, Let's check it out ! 👇

Personally, i live in Melaka, so it's not a big deal since i'm not far from my home. But seriously, i still feel the changes because before this, being as a school student was not challenging like be a university student.

So, for this interim week, we were exposed about our campus, what we should do, what we should not and of course about study skills. These are for us to be prepare to live in university and study smart so we won't pass the deadline of assignments, miss our class and else.

These are the topics that i've learned.

                                         Contents ;

  •               Getting ready to learn
  •               Goal setting
  •               Time management
  •               Memory, learning & Improving concentration
  •               Taking lecturer notes
  •               Academic Integrity & Performance

(source: www.pedus.org)

First of all, we need to realize that we are at university and we are not in school anymore. Our lifestyle, our study style, our environment are so much difference than school. So, we need to be ready to learn here. From A to Z are on us. So, for this topic i learned about the differences being at school and university.

Here are some of it :

  • More presentations
  • Fewer test
  • Less time in class
  • There is no 'feed' from teachers anymore
  • Parents will not always look after you
  • Have many assignments
  • Attandance are not required

Okay.. As i already mentioned, at universities, we will have much presentations than school, this is to improve our soft skills, obviously our communication skill. For test, we will not have as much as we were at school but we need to perform well on final exam so we will not be kick out from the faculty.

At school, we need to be at school before 7.30 a.m and we will go back home at 2 pm or sometimes the teachers do an extra class so we will be at home at 4 or 5 in the evening. But ! At universities, usually the classes will be held at 8 a.m and just for one hour or two and another classes will have a gap maybe 2 or 3 hours after. Meaning to say, at universities, we will have less time in class.

Can we recap how teachers teach us at school ? They will give us the answers of the questions when we did revisions. That style will not be practise in universities. We need to find the answers by our own. If we still can't find it, we need to go to the lecturer ourself and ask for the solutions.

Other, at universities, we will stays at hostel, so our parents will not always be by ourside and look after us. Everything will be by our own.  Next,  we will have many assignments to complete every semesters, if we not pass it up, it'll affect our grade. Last but not least, our attendance are not required but if we absences for many times, it will affect our grades too.

To be a successful student, we need to have a goal. But how to set the goals?

To set the goals, we need to :

                     1. Be specific.
                     2. Have a details of what we want to accomplish.
                     3. Measureable ;  it have a way to  evaluate.
                     4. Attainable ; what are we capable of.
                     5. Relevant.
                     6. Time bound ; set time - line so it won't be unending.

Let me share to you all what are my goals.

And guys ! i want to remind you all to clasify your goals. Do not mix your academic goals and personal goals. So you will be clear what do you want in academic and your personal life.

My fellow readers, for this topic, i've learned about how to manage time wisely. As saying goes, "Time Is Golden" and we also can refer to Al - Quran in Surah Wal 'asr that described about how God swear on time.

We know that we can't chase time and can't go backwards. So, we need to value every second in our lives. To do so, we need to keep our time oranized. So, we need to have a daily schedule. This will prevent us from do a last minute task, be a latecomer, pass up our assignments after the due date and else.

 This is mine.

P/S I did this daily schedule for my UED 102 week.

Other than that we should :

  • Keep a to - do list
  • Do our important task first
  • Do not delay our work
  • Take a rest
  • Consistantly follow our daily schedule

Procrastination

What is procrastination?

It is to postpone or delay our work. Like assignments and any kind of task.

Reason of being procrastination :

  • The task is difficult
  • Time - consuming
  • Lack of knowledge

Effects of being procrastination:

  • Stress
  • Sick
  • Bad mood
  • Let yourselve and others down
  • Not achieve your potential

Step to cure :

  • Gain knowledge
  • Be acknowledge
  • List reason why we are being procastinatinate
  • Reward ourselves when we done our task

In this topic, i've learned about learning styles. Yes guys. We should know what is our learning style. To know the style, my lecture give us a test. It will determine what style are we should realize we are best in. So, we will focus on our style and it will be more easy to catch up in class.

The results of the test will clasify us to a visualize, audiotory or kinesthetic learner.

What are they?

When i did the test, my results shown that i am a kinesthetic learner, and that is so true. i won't be able to understand better if i just watch and hear the lectures.

We're always heard the word of 'Integrity'. But, what's exactly it is? Let's go through about it.

    What is intergrity ?

    1. Honesty to oneself and others.
    2. Trust and open communication between student and faculty.
    3.  Fair treatment and mutual respect between faculty and students.
    4.  Personal responsibility to assist in preventing cheating.

    • Pressure to succed
    • Limited time to study
    • Fear of losing status amongst peers
    • Observing cheating

    Why intergrity matters?

    •  Fairness.

    1. Recognize and affirm academic integrity as a core institutional value.
    1. Foster a lifelong commitment to learning.
    2. Affirm the role of teacher as guide and mentor.
    3. Develop fair and creative forms of assessment.
    4. Reduce oppurtunities to engage in academic dishonesty.

Guys, lastly, my lecturer thought us about how to calculate grades in university which are GPA and CGPA.

    Let's take a good look 😘

For your informations, we will awarded the Anugerah Dekan (AD) / Dean's List if we get pointer of 3.5 and above. If we consistantly get 3.5 and above for every semester without any displinary issues, we will be awarded the Anugerah Naib Canselor on our graduating day.

So, i guess, that's all that i could share to you guys. I hope my writing would give all of us  benefits and useful informations. I hope we will always be one of the successful student and graduate on time (GOT) without any problems.

I end my blog with some quotes.

I did and believe this quote because we will get more if we give more. Same goes in study, if we teach others more, we will understand more.
